Green Bridges saving animals from extiction with good design

How can we save our
wild animals from extiction?
Great ideas to convert the
problem into solutions

GREEN BRIDGES

Permaculture is about good ecological design
For earth care and people care

We all know that many of our wild animals are
disappearing very fast because of loss of habitat.

In many parts of the world the development of roads limit animals of their migration patterns

Dealing with this problem should be one of the priorities of landscape ecological design.

One of the best examples its the iberian linx.
Without the big forests he cannot go look for a partner

Keeping the connection between forest its
essential for wildlife conservation

Can we sacrifice the roads, houses and developments
 that humans need?

Wild animals crossing roads create
too many accidents every year all over the world.

In some countries almost every family
has a story related with this

Many new designs are being developed and
there are more and more countries wanting to implement

It is now time to work with nature and not against nature

It is only with good design that we will be able
 to create harmony again

If you would like us to design a wild life corridor for your place send us an email to newschoolpermies(at)gmail(dot)com

If you have a story about animals
crossing a road share with us on the comments bellow.

Urban Permaculture Workshop in Fuerteventura Island

On Sunday, 10th of April we were invited to Fuerteventura Island for an Urban Permaculture Workshop.

We were promoting and raising awareness
about the care of nature and people.

This time, it was in an old cultural association, El Casino, where they are working on improving the management of the site through a bottom- up methodology.

We were even filmed by local Tindaya TV.

As a community project, we organized some dynamic games for participants expose their needs about green spaces and to define the "guardians" of the gardens.

For one day, we talked about and practiced permaculture for a group of people that haven't heard about it before...

We also transformed one of the outside spaces as an example of how they can start to design
 and make real the gardens.
It is just about creativity and initiative!!

Due to limited free space in the cities, getting a piece of land for making a garden is really a challenge.
A vertical one seems to be always a good option...  ;)
For the whole installation, we re- used some wasted materials found in a storage room of El Casino.

Children were the most excited
and wanted to be part of it, too.

Fuerteventura is the dryest and warmest island of the Canaries, so we had to choose local flowers, fruits and vegetables that don't need to be watered very often and we looked for a half-shade wall in the patio.

We hope, after some months, passion fruits are hanging in the structure while covering the whole wall, zucchinis are growing around the place and more plants are flowering.
Thanks to all the participants of El Casinoabierto and Fasebase collective for the invitation.

Urban aquaponics systems with Will Allen

The power of aquaponics

In my community many people are manifesting there interest on aquaponics ,  they are super productive and can create some of the most productive systems a person can design...and in a super small space.

Best reference i know about aquaponics is Will Allen...ex basquetball player converted in resiliency super hero...now check his work

PDC in Denver Colorado USA

Helder Valente is a strong supporter of low-income farmers and focuses his work on the creation of
strong social structures to build strong foundations for resilient communities..
.
He has created designs for communities all around the world from familiar small scale systems to projects
operating with more than 200 elements. His niche lies in the creation of harmonious social and natural
landscapes that demonstrate a high quality of life and a paradigm shift.

He has co-founded several permaculture institutes and organizations, and is developing short and long-term educational programs.
He is very passionate about non-formal education and creative methodologies to deliver knowledge.
After many years training and working with some of the most experienced permaculturists in the world, including
permaculture creator Bill Mollison, Doug Bullock, Sepp Holzer, Darren Dougherty, Geoff Lawton and Rosemary Morrow,

Helder decided to start creating his own style and aproach towards this design science. By the end of 2012
he felt a strong call from Peru and the Amazon rainforest, and is now gathering the resources to support
the creation of a more dynamic South American permaculture network that can respond in a efficient way
to the fast processes of deforestation of the Amazon rainforest and to the degradation of tribal cultures.
He is currently working directly with the Quechua and Shipibo tribes.
