City Permaculture Course

Bhoomi Education invites master permaculture teacher Helder Valente for this weekend course on Introduction to Permaculture and Urban Gardening on the 29th and 30th of August in Zurich!

info: maininfonsp@gmail.com

After this course, you will have a solid grounding on how you can apply permaculture principles and ethics in your home, garden, apartment, in your relationships, in your farm.

This course will give you a comprehensive overview of how to apply proactive, sustainable design techniques to your immediate environment – whether you live in a small apartment, a quarter-acre block, or a rural property.

You’ll learn how to create a garden almost anywhere - from a window sill to a community garden. This course will show you how you can grow your own food and give you the tools to do so. You’ll learn how you can safely turn almost any space into a garden and the environmental and social benefits of doing so. We’ll explore when and where to grow particular crops, planting techniques, and the benefits of using compost.

A garden is not a retreat, its an attack!

For those who may be curious as to "What is Permaculture?", here are a few quotes, expressed in the words of its creators, practitioners and admirers:

"Permaculture is a design system for creating sustainable human environments. The word itself is a contraction not only of permanent and agriculture but also of permanent culture, as cultures cannot survive for long without a sustainable agricultural base and landuse ethic. On one level, permaculture deals with plants, animals, buildings, and infrastructures (water, energy, communications). However, permaculture is not about these elements themselves, but rather about the relationships we can create between them by the way we place them in the landscape.

The aim is to create systems that are ecologically sound and economically viable, which provide for their own needs, do not exploit or pollute, and are therefore sustainable in the long term. Permaculture uses the inherent qualities of plants and animals combined with the natural characteristics of landscapes and structures to produce a life-supporting system for city and country, using the smallest practical area.

Permaculture is based on the observation of natural systems, the wisdom contained in traditional farming systems, and modern scientific and technological knowledge. Although based on good ecological models, permaculture creates a cultivated ecology, which is designed to produce more human and animal food than is generally found in nature."
- from Introduction to Permaculture by Bill Mollison.

"Permaculture is also a world wide network and movement of individuals and groups working in both rich and poor countries on all continents. Largely unsupported by government or business, these people are contributing to a sustainable future by reorganizing their life and work around permaculture design principles. In this way they are creating small local changes but ones which are directly and indirectly influencing action in the wider environment, organic agriculture, appropriate technology, communities and other movements for a sustainable world. After 20 years Permaculture may rank as one of Australia's most significant 'intellectual exports'." - David Holmgrem, co-creator of permaculture

"Though the problems that face the world are increasingly complex, the solutions remain embarrassingly simple." - Bill Mollison, co-creator of Permaculture

"What permaculturists are doing is the most important activity that any group is doing on the planet. We don't know what details of a truly sustainable future are going to be like, but we need options, we need people experimenting in all kinds of ways and permaculturists are one of the critical gangs that are doing that."
- Dr. David Suzuki, geneticist, broadcaster and international environmental advocate

About Helder Valente

Since being introduced to permaculture in the early 90s, Helder has learned and worked with recognized permaculturists like the cocreator of permaculture Bill Mollison, and other pioneers of this movement like Geoff Lawton, Doug Bullock, Rosemary Morrow, Darren Doherty and Sepp Holzer, to name a few, and in the major world climatic regions. In this process Helder has been researching & implementing sustainability principles in a wide variety of environments, from urban and rural plots in the north and south of Europe to the the arid landscapes of Egypt & Turkey and lately big scale areas of tropical jungles of Peru and Brazil and favilitated knowledge sharing with tribal communities of Quechua and Shipibo tradition.

Helder is a strong supporter of low-income farmers and focuses his work on the creation of strong social structures to build strong foundations for resilient communities. His niche lies in the creation of harmonious social and natural landscapes that demonstrate a high quality of life and a paradigm shift. EDC - Ecovillage Design Course

 Ecovillage Design Course
EDC

Course taught by Helder Valente and
the New School Permaculture  Team

This course was made to create a positive change on our attitude on the way we look at each other and ourselves.

How do I keep the people involved in my project happy and inspired?

When challenges appear, how do I keep moving forward?
How can i transport my visions and ideas to reality.

I want to keep inspired and manifest my vision for the future.
How can I get support and help others realise their own visions?

Have you ever asked yourself one of these questions?

Managing people is so much harder than developing the land.

How can I do it better?

Where do I start when trying to create and organize my project?

The EDC is a revolutionary course with the objective of helping people find the solutions for the social dynamics that we all have to face on our our everyday lives or our permaculture projects .

We look at what makes us move in this world of alternative thinking that permaculture provides.
How to bring our dreams, visions and ideas to reality, this course is used for people to dedicate time and space to really think about it....how would it be like?
We also put a focus on project development and management and how to deal with difference of opinions or conflict resolution.
We talk about positive and clear communication and decision tools like sociocracy.
How can we live in community, have our own space and time and still be part of this social collective consciousness.

The subjects covered during the EDC include:
